MONROVIA, Liberia — In a show of solidarity, the wives of three jailed lawmakers delivered essential supplies to their detained spouses at the Monrovia Central Prison on Saturday amid growing tensions over the Capitol arson charges.
The women—Dama R. Yekeson-Koffa, wife of former House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa; Dr. Lendeh Teage Seboe, wife of Montserrado County District 16 Representative Dixon Wlawlee Seboe; and Comfort Mulbah Kamara, wife of Montserrado County District 15 Representative Abu Bana Kamara—were seen at the facility arriving separately with personal items including mattresses, bottled water, food, fans, and hygiene products.
Comfort Kamara was the first to appear, carrying a standing fan, a bucket, and a backpack. She was accompanied by a staffer from Bana FM, a radio station owned by her husband under ADI Communications Inc. Witnesses said she was later allowed into the prison compound without incident.
Later in the afternoon, Yekeson-Koffa and Dr. Seboe arrived together with legislative staffers and delivered mattresses, clothing, pillows, bottled water, towels, and additional food items. Though they did not enter the facility, aides helped offload the supplies outside the gate.
The gesture came hours after the lawmakers were remanded to the Monrovia Central Prison following multiple criminal charges filed by the Liberia National Police in connection with the December 2024 fire at the Capitol Building.
During a press conference earlier this week, Police Inspector General Col. Gregory O. W. Coleman described “credible links” between the detained lawmakers and an alleged conspiracy dating back to November 2024. Former Speaker Koffa was formally charged with criminal conspiracy under Chapter 10, Section 10.4 of the Revised Penal Code of Liberia.
According to the police charge sheet, Rep. Kamara and Grand Gedeh County District #3 Rep. Jacob C. Debee allegedly took part in planning meetings and coordinated logistics. Rep. Seboe is accused of distributing cash to individuals allegedly contracted to execute the act.
All four lawmakers now face multiple charges, including arson, criminal mischief, recklessly endangering another person, attempted murder, criminal facilitation, solicitation, and conspiracy. They remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
