PAYNESVILLE — Turkish coach Ibrahim Cezayir suffered his first defeat in Liberian football on Tuesday as league leaders Watanga FC defeated Bea Mountain 4-2 at the SKD Practice Pitch.
The loss ended Cezayir’s impressive unbeaten run since taking charge of Bea Mountain just over eight weeks ago and extended Watanga’s lead at the top of the Liberia Football Association First Division League to five points.
The highly anticipated clash featured the league’s top two sides, who entered the match separated by just two points.
Watanga came in with 13 wins, six draws and two losses from 21 matches, conceding only 13 goals. Bea Mountain, the league’s most potent attacking side, had scored 43 goals while posting 12 wins, seven draws and three losses.
Watanga had also edged the first meeting 1-0 in Robertsport, with both teams unbeaten in their previous five matches heading into Tuesday’s encounter.
Watanga asserted control early, pressing high and forcing defensive errors.
Darius Gormadeh scored twice to lead the attack, while Leo Zinnah and Varney Varney also got on the scoresheet.
Bea Mountain responded through Nuch Zohn and Emmanuel Karblee, but Watanga’s clinical finishing proved decisive as they secured the 4-2 victory.
Cezayir’s Early Impact
Despite the defeat, Cezayir has significantly improved Bea Mountain since his arrival.
The 46-year-old, who holds a UEFA A coaching license, replaced Cooper Sannah midseason and led the team on a nine-match winning streak, lifting them into title contention.
His emphasis on structure, discipline and defensive organization has reshaped the team while preserving its attacking strength.
