MONROVIA — Vision Basketball Liberia (VBL) is preparing to sign a historic memorandum of understanding with WEBBER Hoops & Courts of Nigeria, a partnership expected to significantly enhance basketball infrastructure nationwide.
The agreement, slated for completion later this month in Monrovia, will focus on upgrading existing facilities and constructing new courts built to international standards. Supporters of the initiative say it represents one of Liberia’s most significant investments in grassroots and community basketball in recent years.
On Tuesday night, VBL chairman Jake Kabakole held a pre-signing meeting with Opeyemi Babalola, owner and managing director of WEBBER Hoops & Courts. Babalola, whose company is based in Lagos, is expected to visit Liberia later this month for an official working trip that will include the signing ceremony.
Under the proposed partnership, the two institutions will collaborate on developing new community courts in selected areas and upgrading existing ones. Planned improvements include installing modern hoops, resurfacing the courts, and enhancing overall durability to meet international standards, including FIBA.
VBL stated on Thursday that the effort aims to enhance safety, functionality, and aesthetics across basketball courts in Monrovia and beyond, expanding access for youth programs, community leagues, and local sports activities.
Once finalized, the partnership is expected to focus on high-traffic community courts, with plans to build additional facilities in underserved areas. Schools, clubs, and community groups will soon be able to apply for improvements, with detailed guidelines to be issued after the agreement is signed.
WEBBER Hoops & Courts, also known as Webber Engineering or Webber Floors & Hoops, specializes in manufacturing and installing basketball equipment and sports flooring across Africa. The company has supported major tournaments and community initiatives, including branded court projects and 3×3 competitions to develop the sport at the grassroots level.
