Unity Party NEC Demands Accountability, Strengthens Party-Government Relations

MONROVIA – The ruling Unity Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has called for greater accountability and collaboration within the government, urging ethical leadership and support for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST Agenda. This appeal came through a resolution adopted during a two-day session at the Golden Key Hotel in Paynesville.

The resolution, issued on November 17, 2024, calls for the immediate prosecution of corrupt officials and the acceleration of asset recovery processes. “We strongly urge our political leader and President to investigate, remove, and prosecute any current or former government officials involved in corruption or actions that undermine public trust,” the NEC stated.

The NEC also highlighted in the resolution the severe challenges inherited from the previous government, including a $2 billion debt burden, crumbling infrastructure, and a public sector plagued by inefficiencies and corruption. The committee emphasized that overcoming these obstacles requires a unified effort across government and society.

The NEC pledged full support for the ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes development in agriculture, roads, the rule of law, education, sanitation, and tourism. The plan, set to be launched as the “ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development” in December, aims to lay the groundwork for sustainable progress.

“The strength of our nation lies in the integrity and service of its leaders,” the NEC stated, underscoring the importance of transparency and professionalism among government officials. It also called for Cabinet Ministers and agency heads to seek prior Cabinet approval before making decisions with significant national implications.

The resolution marked a significant step in fostering closer ties between the Unity Party and the government it leads. To ensure alignment with the ARREST Agenda, the NEC announced plans to invite Cabinet members to provide regular progress reports.

“The success of this administration depends on unified effort,” the NEC said, urging party members and public officials alike to place national interests above personal or partisan agendas.

Additionally, the committee directed its finance team to begin collecting dues from party members working in both public and private sectors, ensuring the party’s sustainability and capacity to support its broader mission.
