Monrovia – The United Youth for Peace Education Transparency and Development (UYPETDL) has officially launched an Emergency Response Program to support flood victims in Monrovia and surrounding areas.
According to the group, the initiative aims to assist over 11,000 residents affected by recent flooding, providing both food and non-food items to those in need.
Timothy Kpeh, the group’s Executive Director, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “Our primary focus is to bring immediate relief to those who have been hardest hit by the flooding. With the support of our international partners, we are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.”
Kpeh further explained that the initiative is collaborating with the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation to ensure that affected communities have access to safe drinking water. “We are working closely with the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation to deliver clean water to the affected residents. This is crucial in preventing the spread of waterborne diseases,” he added.
The Executive Director also called on the government to scale up its efforts in providing support to flood victims, particularly in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector. “The government needs to intensify its interventions. We urge them to increase their support in the WASH sector, as this is vital for the health and well-being of our people,” Kpeh stressed.
Ansu Dolley, Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), commended the United Youth for Peace for their timely intervention. “We appreciate the efforts of UYPETDL in responding to the needs of our people during this difficult time. The NDMA has also been working tirelessly to support flood victims, and we are glad to see organizations like UYPETDL stepping up to assist in these efforts,” Dolley remarked.
