SILVER SPRING, MD –The University of Liberia Alumni Association in the Americas (ULIBAAA) proudly announces the successful conclusion of its 9th Continental Convention, held from October 31 to November 2, 2025, at the St. Andrews Ukrainian Hall in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. The event united graduates, former students, faculty, staff, and dedicated supporters for a powerful weekend of strategic discussion, networking, and reaffirmed commitment to the University of Liberia (UL).
The undisputed highlight of the convention was the special attendance of the President of the
University of Liberia, Dr. Layli Maparyan. During a crucial roundtable discussion on Saturday,
November 1, Dr. Maparyan unveiled the institution’s comprehensive five-year strategic blueprint: “A Victory of Imagination – Building the UL of Tomorrow Today.”
A New Vision for Academic Excellence
Dr. Maparyan used the platform to present an honest assessment of the University’s current standing, emphasizing the immediate need to accelerate improvements across key operational areas. She detailed that the plan is designed not just for prestige, but for fundamental institutional improvement, stating: “I want us to improve the ranking not just so we can say we did it, but because we’ll be a substantially better institution if we meet the criteria.”
The ambitious plan is fulcrumed on five core pillars critical to UL’s institutional growth and student success:
- Flagship Status: Solidifying UL’s reputation as Liberia’s premier institution.
- Administration: Streamlining operations and enhancing customer service.
- Student Success: Expanding support systems and academic planning for students.
- Academics: Increasing faculty with terminal degrees and promoting research output.
- Infrastructure: Ensuring modern, sustainable facilities and reliable utilities.
ULIBAAA Reaffirms Commitment and Highlights Achievements
Dr. Fatima Greaves-Kwekwe, President of ULIBAAA, expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Maparyan for her inspiring presentation and visionary leadership. She reaffirmed ULIBAAA’s strategic position as a critical stakeholder in realizing the new plan.
Dr. Greaves-Kwekwe highlighted the association’s recent tangible support for the alma mater, including the installation of 85 solar panel lights on the Fendell Campus, the production of 2,000 armchairs(1000 already delivered), and the procurement of copiers and printers for the Resource Center Project of the Alumni Association of the University of Liberia (AAUL).
The convention’s spirit of service also resulted in significant fundraising success, with around $81000 United States Dollars raised by over 150 alumni and friends across the Americas donated to the convention. This amount included contributions to the national queen contest raised around $40,300
on Friday night. Ms. Nee Allison of the DMV Chapter was crowned Ms. ULIBAAA 2025-2026. With these amounts and monies previously raised, ULIBAAA is poised to boldly invest in the infrastructural and instructional upliftment of the University. Meanwhile, ULIBAAA is undertaking an internal human resource assessment as a means to dispose of its technical, instructional, and policy expertise to strengthen the University’s capacity to educate and contribute to Liberia’s holistic development.
Suggestions and recommendations proffered by the convention participants during the Q&A session are being cataloged and delivered to the University leadership, providing crucial input for ULIBAAA’s coordinated support efforts moving forward. The association looks forward to working hand-in-hand with Dr. Maparyan and her administration to usher in a new era of excellence for the University of Liberia.
