MINNESOTA, USA — The United Bong County Association in the Americas (UBCAA) has appealed to the Liberian government to grant approval for the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), led by Representative Musa Hassan Bility, to construct the 38-meter Jor River Bridge in Bong County.
UBCAA Appeals for Partnership and Approval
In separate communications to Public Works Minister Roland Laytette Giddings, Bong County Legislative Caucus Chair Senator Prince K. Moye, and Superintendent Loleyah Hawa Norris, the association urged the government to reverse its earlier decision and allow the CMC to carry out the project under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works.
UBCAA described the initiative as a “community-driven partnership” consistent with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s vision for inclusive development through collaboration between government, private citizens, and the diaspora.
“This project will not only save lives but also foster a new spirit of partnership and efficiency in national development,” UBCAA National President Caimon Joe Gbamokollie said. “If approved, it will demonstrate how citizens, government, and the private sector can work hand in hand to transform communities.”
Bridge Seen as Humanitarian and Fiscal Priority
The association cited humanitarian, fiscal, and communal imperatives behind its appeal. It stressed that the bridge would enhance public safety and prevent tragic accidents for residents—particularly children—who currently risk their lives crossing the Jor River daily.
UBCAA further argued that granting approval to CMC would allow the government to redirect funds originally allocated for the bridge toward other urgent development priorities such as schools, clinics, and road rehabilitation in Bong County.
Promoting Community Ownership
The organization underscored that local communities have expressed overwhelming support for the CMC-led initiative, viewing it as a chance to strengthen public–private partnerships and reinforce citizen participation in development.
“Approval of this project will validate community ownership and showcase a model of how Liberians at home and abroad can work together to build the nation,” UBCAA stated.
Call for Coordination and Accountability
UBCAA also appealed to the Bong County Legislative Caucus and County Administration to back the project and collaborate closely with the Ministry of Public Works and CMC to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper coordination throughout the implementation process.
“UBCAA stands ready to partner with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely and transparent completion of this vital infrastructure project,” President Gbamokollie affirmed. “The bridge represents not just a structure but a lifeline for many citizens in Bong County.”
A Symbol of Citizen-Led Development
The association concluded by describing the Jor River Bridge project as a symbol of citizen-led development—an example of how Liberians in the diaspora can meaningfully contribute to rebuilding their homeland.
UBCAA is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving as an umbrella body for citizens, residents, and friends of Bong County living in the Americas.
