MONROVIA— FC Bea Mountain’s midseason gamble on Turkish coach Ibrahim Cezayir is paying off.
Since taking charge just weeks ago, the 46-year-old tactician has guided the club to five consecutive victories, lifting Bea Mountain to second place in the Liberia Football Association First Division.
Bea Mountain is only the second team this season to win five straight matches. LISCR FC earlier set the pace with a seven-game winning streak.
Cezayir, who holds a UEFA A coaching license from Turkey, replaced Cooper Sannah during the midseason transfer window and has quickly reshaped the team’s fortunes.
His latest victory came over the weekend in Nimba County, where Bea Mountain edged FC Fassell 1-0 at Gompa Stadium. The win moved Bea Mountain to 36 points from 19 matches, pushing the club above Watanga FC, which has a game in hand.
LISCR, Fassell stumble.
While Bea Mountain surged, two of the league’s heavyweights faltered.
LISCR, nicknamed the Shipping Boys, suffered back-to-back defeats. The league leaders lost 3-2 to Heaven Eleven last weekend before falling 5-1 to Borough FC on Sunday.
Defending champion FC Fassell also dropped consecutive matches. The club was beaten by Freeport FC before losing to Bea Mountain in Gompa. The setbacks dropped Fassell to fourth place in the standings.
Despite the losses, LISCR remains atop the table with 38 points, though it has played more matches than third-place Watanga. Fassell faces mounting pressure to regain form in its title defense.
