MONROVIA – Reginald B. Goodridge, National Chairman of the historic True Whig Party (TWP), has sharply responded to a vote of no confidence passed against him by a faction of aggrieved and suspended partisans of the party.
The discontented members, alleging that Chairman Goodridge has failed to convene a national convention as mandated by the party’s constitution, declared that his tenure has expired since the 2023 general and presidential elections.
Their decision was announced at a high-level meeting held in Monrovia on April 30, 2025.
About 20 members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), including former Standard Bearer Eric Olison, county chairpersons, and national officers, signed a statement demanding Goodridge’s removal. They argued that his refusal to organize the constitutionally required convention every six years has weakened the party’s structure and eroded its national influence.
The statement was signed by several individuals claiming to be prominent party leaders, including former Standard Bearer Mr. Eric Olison, National Chairlady Hawa Johnson, Youth Chair Dukuly Mambu, and county leaders such as Adolphus Capehart, Said Seton Sackor, Varney Sando, Richard Bracewell, Ezekiel Berge, Emmanuel Gono, Moses P. Bombo, and Moses S. Mulbah.
In the aftermath of the no-confidence vote, the party’s Executive Committee is reportedly expected to appoint an acting chairperson to guide the TWP to its next convention.
The party has also formally requested the National Elections Commission (NEC) to oversee its upcoming convention, scheduled for October 30, 2025, to ensure transparency and credibility.
Meanwhile, speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, S. Barbington Coleman, former National Treasurer of the TWP, expressed disappointment in the aggrieved partisans for singling out Chairman Goodridge. He noted that all party positions across the 15 counties have been vacant since the 2023 elections.
“Some of the individuals claiming to be executives of the True Whig Party are currently under suspension,” Coleman said.
He also revealed that plans are underway to hold the national convention in July, contrary to the October date cited by the dissenting group.
Coleman emphasized that the chairman is not refusing to take the party to a convention. He urged the aggrieved partisans not to allow themselves to be manipulated by individuals whose only intention is to divide the TWP.
“Let us remain united. The planned July convention is still on course,” he added.
