SHANGHAI, China — Two senior reporters from The Liberian Investigator (TLI), Blamo N. Toe and Nyantee S. Togba, are among 30 Liberian journalists and media professionals currently participating in a 14-day media capacity-building seminar in Changsha, Hunan Province, China.
The delegation departed Liberia on July 30 from Roberts International Airport, transiting through Ghana and Ethiopia before arriving in China. The seminar is part of a broader effort by the Chinese government to strengthen media cooperation and capacity across Africa.
High-Level Training and Exchange
Organized by the Hunan International Business Vocational College—one of China’s Ministry of Commerce-approved training bases for international officials—the seminar includes lectures by top Chinese scholars and officials.
Speakers include Wu Chuanhua, Secretary-General of the China-Africa Institute; Liu Qi Feng, Deputy Director of the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Hunan Provincial Communist Party; Li Peng, Deputy Director of the Hunan Department of Commerce; and professors Jiang Yanhui and Xie Yuhua of Hunan University’s School of Business Administration.
Participants will also tour the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Innovation Demonstration Park, as well as key cities in Guangdong Province, including Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Togba Appointed Delegation Head
TLI’s Nyantee S. Togba was appointed head of delegation by the Chinese Embassy in Monrovia and has been actively coordinating the team’s activities. Togba also intervened in resolving a technical travel issue that affected one of the delegates in transit.
All participants received formal letters of invitation from the Chinese government through its embassy in Liberia.
Strengthening Media Ties
The seminar focuses on enhancing professional competencies in media communication, policy interpretation, and global reporting trends. Topics include “Introduction to China,” “Experience Sharing of China’s Poverty Alleviation,” “China’s Modernization and Sino-African Common Development,” “International Development Assistance,” and “Friendly City Cooperation.”
The training is part of China’s expanding soft-power diplomacy in Africa, aimed at building long-term partnerships with media institutions across the continent.
Toe and Togba’s participation marks another milestone for The Liberian Investigator, which continues to position itself as a leading platform for independent journalism and international engagement.
