WANHASSA, Lofa County — Thomas Ansumana will contest the representative seat for Electoral District 2 in Lofa County, campaigning on roads, schools, health care, and youth employment, and promising to be a lawmaker who stays in contact with the district between elections.
The announcement came in a statement issued Monday by Team Thomas Ansumana, which said the bid is “not simply about seeking political office” but about answering a call to listen to constituents and advance their interests beyond election season.
“The people of District #2 deserve representation that does not only speak to them during elections, but listens to them, understands their challenges, communicates with them, and works consistently,” the statement said.
From Bolahun to the diaspora
Ansumana has roots in Bolahun and Kamatahun and spent his early years in Bolahun, which the statement said shaped his connection to the district. He graduated from Bolahun Holy Cross Mission in 1985 before moving to Monrovia.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Liberia, a bachelor’s degree in health care administration from Southern New Hampshire University and a master’s degree in health care administration from Western Governors University in Utah.
While in the United States and Canada, Ansumana remained active in Liberian community affairs. He served as mobilization chairman for the Unity Party in the diaspora, where he worked to connect Liberians abroad to the political process at home.
Team Thomas Ansumana said that experience strengthened his understanding of “organization, sacrifice, teamwork, discipline, and the ability to bring people together.”
Roads, health, education, youth
The campaign said Ansumana’s platform rests on six areas: roads and infrastructure, education, quality health care, youth empowerment, accountability and transparency, and inclusive development.
“Electoral District #2 has enormous potential, but realizing that potential requires leadership committed to practical development,” the statement said. “Our children deserve better educational opportunities, our communities deserve improved infrastructure, our people deserve quality healthcare, and our young people deserve meaningful opportunities.”
Public office “must be treated as a responsibility and a public trust, not as a human personal privilege,” the statement said, pledging that Ansumana would be accessible and accountable to citizens.
Team Thomas Ansumana said the campaign will focus on dialogue and unity rather than division or personal attacks.
“We invite the people of Electoral District #2 to join the conversation about the future of our district,” the statement said. “The answers to what kind of leadership District #2 deserves belong to the people.”
The group called on voters to engage, ask questions and make an informed decision ahead of the elections.
