SUAKOKO, Bong County — Outraged residents of Suakoko District on Sunday blocked the Gbarnga–Monrovia Highway, demanding justice after the body of 50-year-old Quita Jackson was discovered under circumstances they say point to foul play, contradicting an initial jury report that found none.
Jackson was reported missing around 2 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025. After two days of searching by family and community members, her naked body was found Saturday behind a cemetery in Suakoko, sending fear and anger through the district.
Police officers from the Suakoko Depot responded and convened a 15-member coroner’s jury to examine the body. After nearly an hour, the jury concluded there was “no foul play,” despite what residents described as visible cuts.
Family members who later washed the body said they made disturbing discoveries: Jackson’s right ear, eyes, tongue and vulva were missing. The revelations ignited public outrage and fueled accusations that the initial jury report was false or compromised.
“They killed Ma Quita, but the jurors and the police lied to us that there was no foul play. This means that they can’t see,” said protest leader Nuetah A. Darwokalar.
Residents, youths, elders, and women poured onto the highway early Sunday, chanting “Justice for Ma Quita” and vowing to keep the road closed until an independent investigation is launched. Traffic was halted for hours, leaving dozens of vehicles stranded.
“This is not the first time they have killed someone from here,” youth advocate Melvin Thrones said. “We want another examination to prove the fact, and if the police fail to do so, we will always assemble on this road and no car will pass.”
The demonstration drew senior county and national officials, including Bong County Administrative Officer Sam Elliott, Agriculture Minister Alexander Nutah, and officers of the Liberia National Police Bong County Detachment, who appealed for calm and urged residents to clear the road.
In a significant shift, Bong County Police Commander Fasu Sheriff distanced himself from the initial jury findings and promised a new examination.
“I don’t know about any jury’s report,” Sheriff said. “But I want to assure you that we will conduct another report to ensure justice prevails.”
Jackson’s body has since been taken to a funeral home, where it will remain as police open a fresh investigation.
Authorities say the probe is ongoing and promise to update the public as more information becomes available.
