GREENVILLE, SINOE COUNTY – The Mayor of Greenville, Harrison O. Kai, has commended SIB Bank (Sapelle International Bank Liberia) for its unwavering commitment to providing essential financial services to Greenville and its surrounding towns and villages.
As the only commercial bank currently operating in Sinoe County, SIB is playing a pivotal role in bridging the financial services gap for local businesses, institutions, and residents.
“You’re doing exceptionally well for our people across Greenville and the nearby towns and villages,” Mayor Kai said. “The county, its citizens, and the local leadership are all grateful for your continued efforts to complement the work of the national government.”
The Mayor made these remarks during a recent courtesy visit to SIB’s Greenville branch, where he encouraged the staff and emphasized the critical importance of the bank’s presence in the region. Without SIB, residents would have to travel for hours—or even an entire day—to access banking services in Maryland or Grand Bassa counties.
SIB currently offers a range of services, including deposits, withdrawals, and domestic and international remittances. Local businesses frequently rely on the Greenville branch to facilitate payments not only within Liberia, but also to commercial partners in Ghana, Nigeria, and China.
The bank’s inter-branch operations allow customers to deposit funds in Greenville and withdraw in Monrovia, eliminating the risks associated with transporting cash across counties—particularly valuable during the rainy season when road travel becomes more difficult.
In addition, the branch supports MoneyGram services even for non-account holders, expanding access to financial transactions for a broader customer base.
Speaking on behalf of SIB’s Managing Director, Joseph Anim, Branch Manager Joseph Twoe thanked Mayor Kai for his visit and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting underserved communities across Liberia.
“At SIB Bank, we don’t just provide top-tier financial services to hundreds of clients—we also create employment opportunities and invest in the professional development of our staff to deliver the best,” he said.
Founded in 2016 as GN Bank and later rebranded, SIB Bank now employs over 125 Liberians.
Also expressing support for the initiative was the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs, Madam Ellen Pratt, praised both Mayor Kai and SIB Bank for their joint commitment to driving economic growth in the region.
“I hope other financial institutions will follow SIB’s example and expand into underserved Southeastern cities,” she said.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has pledged to support cities like Greenville as part of the government’s national development agenda, recognizing that decentralizing financial services is key to fostering sustainable economic growth.
