MONROVIA – River Gee County Superintendent Mike Swengbe has dismissed allegations of financial mismanagement surrounding the renovation of the Superintendent Compound, describing the claims as baseless and misleading.
Swengbe clarified that the renovation cost US$23,920 — not US$46,000 as widely reported — and said the project was fully approved by the County Council with complete transparency.
Superintendent details renovation decision
In a statement, Swengbe said the compound serves as a public facility for the people of River Gee and required urgent rehabilitation.
He explained that upon assuming office, he was forced to reside in a private guest house for more than four months, personally covering a daily cost of US$30 due to the poor condition of the official residence.
The experience, he said, informed his decision to renovate the compound not only for his use but for future administrations.
County Council approval, public disclosure emphasized
Swengbe stressed that the renovation process followed due procedure, noting that the County Council approved the expenditure and that details were disclosed to the public through local radio platforms.
He praised both the council and citizens for their support, adding that the improved facility will enhance the county’s ability to host official guests and conduct government business effectively.
Vehicle purchase claims dismissed
Addressing separate allegations, the Superintendent also rejected claims that US$40,000 had been used for vehicle purchases.
He clarified that the funds remain intact in the bank and have not been spent.
Reaffirms commitment to transparency
Swengbe emphasized his administration’s commitment to accountability, insisting that all financial decisions have been properly vetted and publicly communicated.
He maintained that the allegations do not reflect the reality of the county’s financial management and urged the public to rely on verified information.
