Monrovia – Montserrado County Representative Dixon W. Seboe has taken a significant step toward fostering development in the Borough of New Kru Town by strengthening collaboration with Governor Robert B. Teah.
On Sunday, January 26, 2025, Representative Seboe donated four tractors to Governor Teah’s office, emphasizing a shared commitment to addressing sanitation challenges in the Borough and District #16.
During the presentation, Seboe revealed that a recent meeting with Governor Teah identified sanitation as a critical priority. In response, he secured resources to tackle the issue by successfully lobbying the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) to provide financial support for the procurement of the equipment.
Seboe explained that the funds initially intended for the expansion of the science laboratory at D. Twe Memorial School were redirected due to LACE’s inability to raise the necessary resources. He expressed hope that the science lab project would be implemented later in 2025, contingent on available funding.
“The sanitation issue demanded immediate action, and I am grateful that we could reallocate the resources to address this urgent need. These four modern, high-capacity tractors will make a significant impact,” Seboe stated.
He commended Governor Teah for initiating cleanup efforts in the Borough and pledged ongoing support to ensure the sustainability of sanitation initiatives.
Community Leaders Welcome Donation
Vice Governor for Administration, Nelson C. Sekeh, lauded Representative Seboe’s gesture, calling it a demonstration of true leadership. “On behalf of the citizens of this Borough, we are grateful for your commitment to improving our community,” he said.
Vice Governor for Operations, Decontee Woto, assured the public that the tractors would be used for their intended purpose, emphasizing that the donation aligns with the best interests of the Borough’s residents.
Ishmael Foday Keita, Chair of all chairpersons in the Borough, praised Seboe for his leadership and contributions, including scholarships for residents. He expressed optimism about the collaboration between Seboe and Teah, anticipating transformative development in the area.
Governor Teah’s Response
Governor Teah expressed gratitude to Representative Seboe, noting that the new tractors would significantly enhance waste management in the Borough. He highlighted the insufficiency of previous resources, including a tricycle provided by the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), in addressing the Borough’s growing sanitation demands.
“With the addition of these tractors, I can confidently say that dirt will no longer be a persistent issue in New Kru Town,” Teah said. He also thanked Seboe for fulfilling the trust placed in him by voters during the 2023 legislative elections.
Bridge Construction Project
In a further demonstration of their collaboration, Seboe and Teah announced plans to begin constructing a mini-bridge to reduce transportation costs, ease travel distances, and alleviate traffic congestion along the Duala Market road.
Once completed, the bridge will connect the Trowin and Island Clinic communities, providing an alternative route to St. Paul Bridge and Brewerville City. Governor Teah disclosed that the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, spearheaded by the government of Liberia, is scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
The bridge aims to address congestion at Point Four Junction, which often forces commuters to take longer, more expensive routes via Caldwell Road and Mombo Town East.
Historical Context and Political Reconciliation
Representative Seboe recalled that planning for the bridge project began under former President George Weah’s administration, with his office playing a pivotal role in advocating for it.
“This project is a major achievement for our community, and I am proud to have been part of the effort that initiated it. I am committed to ensuring its completion,” Seboe said.
The collaboration between Seboe and Teah also marks a turning point in their relationship, which had been characterized by political rivalry during the 2017 and 2023 legislative elections. Despite their differences, both leaders have pledged to prioritize the development of the Borough, setting aside past tensions for the benefit of the community.
Governor Teah, the first Governor of the Borough to receive Senate confirmation, emphasized his commitment to working with Representative Seboe to bring progress to New Kru Town.
“The people of this Borough deserve better, and we are determined to deliver meaningful development through our partnership,” Teah said.
