MONROVIA, Liberia — Montserrado County District #1 Representative Rugie Yatu Barry has strongly condemned the Liberia National Police’s handling of Madam Zainab Bah, who was seen in a video being violently handled by police while carrying her infant child.
“The treatment meted out to Madam Bah was inhumane and degrading,” Hon. Barry said in a statement, describing the reported actions as unacceptable. “This kind of behavior has no place in our society, regardless of the circumstances.”
While welcoming the police’s apology and internal investigation, Hon. Barry called for transparency, fairness, and prompt action to establish accountability and serve justice. “Accountability must be established, and justice must be served,” she emphasized.
The lawmaker stressed the need for police to perform their duties with professionalism, peace, and proportionality, warning that no Liberian should face excessive force or dehumanization. She also condemned power theft and other illegal activities, encouraging citizens to use legal means to address utility-related issues.
“We must never lose sight of the values that bind us: dignity, fairness, and justice for all,” Hon. Barry stated, reaffirming her commitment to human rights, justice, and national peace.
