ZOWEINTA, Bong County — House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon over the weekend officially dedicated the newly constructed Zoweinta Pipe-Borne Water Project, an initiative personally undertaken and funded by Representative Prince K. Koinah of Bong County Electoral District #1.
The modern water facility, situated in Wolota Clan, Kpaai Administrative District, is designed to provide safe and clean drinking water to thousands of residents and commuters in Zoweinta — a fast-growing commercial hub in Bong County.
The project covers more than three kilometers of pipeline and includes a treatment plant and control room, providing a reliable water supply to homes, businesses, and public facilities that previously relied on unsafe sources.
The ceremony drew a high-profile delegation led by Speaker Koon, accompanied by President Boakai’s Political Advisor Madam Macdella Cooper, Bong County Caucus Chair Senator Prince K. Moye, and several members of the House of Representatives including Jeremiah Sokan, Nyan G. Flomo, Anthony Williams, Emmanuel Dahn, Prof. Thomas Romeo Quioh, Saye Mianah, and Emmanuel Yarh.
Speaking during the dedication, Rep. Koinah said the initiative was a promise fulfilled and a demonstration of his commitment to improving lives in District #1.
“We believe in action, not too much talk,” Koinah declared. “We saw Zoweinta as a growing commercial hub, and as the population expanded, we saw the urgent need to provide clean drinking water. People doubted us, but today, we’re here to prove that it can be done. This project is for the people — take ownership, it’s yours. The only cost is to maintain it.”
He noted that the water project is part of a broader plan to ensure equitable access to essential services across the district.
“Next year, you will feel the positive impact of District #1,” Koinah added. “We still have more to do, but today marks a new beginning.”
Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, who officially turned on the water system, praised Rep. Koinah for what he called “practical and people-centered leadership.”
Dedicated project for safe drinking water
“This is what representation should look like,” Koon said. “When leaders keep their word and deliver tangible results, the people gain trust and hope. What Rep. Koinah has done here is proof that development is achievable when leaders act with sincerity and commitment.”
The Speaker also encouraged residents to protect and sustain the facility.
“Projects like this belong to the community. It is your responsibility to preserve them for the next generation,” Koon emphasized.
Kpaai District Commissioner James Y. Kpoquoi described the day as “historic,” recalling that many had doubted the project would be completed.
“When we did the groundbreaking, some people didn’t believe this would happen,” Kpoquoi said. “But today, we are witnesses to a promise kept. We thank Rep. Koinah and all our leaders for their unity and hard work. This shows Bong County is moving forward.”
Representing the County Superintendent, Mr. Sam B. Elliot, Administrative Officer and proxy to Superintendent Loleyah Hawa Norris, lauded Rep. Koinah for prioritizing community needs.
“We encourage the people of Zoweinta to take responsibility for maintaining and safeguarding this facility,” Elliot said. “It’s a gift to the people, and its longevity depends on how well it is cared for.”
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Bong County Legislative Caucus, Senator Prince K. Moye, Caucus Chair, hailed Rep. Koinah as a dedicated and result-driven leader.
“This is the largest district in Bong County, and accomplishing such a project here shows leadership and determination,” Moye said. “Prince Koinah has earned our respect. We’ll continue to work together to deliver more developments across the county.”
Moye also announced that additional infrastructure and energy projects are planned for the district beginning in 2026, including a $1 billion power expansion expected to reach parts of Kpaai and neighboring communities.
The program concluded with cultural performances and the symbolic turning of the water valve by Speaker Koon, officially commissioning the facility for public use. Jubilant residents sang and danced, expressing gratitude to Rep. Koinah for fulfilling a long-awaited dream.
For decades, Zoweinta residents have depended on creek and hand-pump water. With this project, access to clean and safe water has finally become a reality.
As one resident put it, “Our representative didn’t just talk — he delivered.”
