DAKAR, Senegal — Qatar has provided 15 buses and a consignment of security equipment to Senegal to support preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which begin Oct. 31 and run through Nov. 13.
The Games will mark the first time an Olympic event is held on African soil, making Dakar 2026 a historic milestone for the continent’s sporting development.
Qatar’s support reflects its commitment to international sports cooperation, drawing on experience gained from hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup and other major sporting events.
Youssef Shaban Ibrahim Al Sada, Qatar’s ambassador to Senegal, said the assistance reflects the strong relationship between the two countries and Qatar’s willingness to share its expertise in organizing major sporting competitions.
“Qatar and Senegal have a strong and long-standing relationship, and we are pleased to support Senegal’s preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, a historic moment for sports in Africa,” Al Sada said.
“Sharing the expertise we have gained from hosting major sporting events is among the most valuable contributions we can make, and reflects our belief in the role of sport in strengthening cooperation between nations.”
Qatar has supported preparations in other host nations in recent years, using its experience in staging major international tournaments to promote cooperation in sports and strengthen relations between countries.
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will bring together young athletes from around the world, placing Senegal and Africa at the center of the Olympic movement for the first time.
