Sen. Zoe Pennue Vows to Resign if CDC Names Grand Gedeh Project

CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia — Grand Gedeh County Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue says he will resign from the Senate if the former ruling Coalition for Democratic Change can name a single major development project it completed in the county during its six years in power.

Pennue issued the challenge Tuesday while receiving an honor from the Unity Party Intellectuals, Johnsonville Chapter, which recognized what it described as his leadership, public service and contributions to national development.

While thanking the group for the award, the senator used the occasion to attack the CDC’s development record in Grand Gedeh, accusing the former administration of making numerous promises without delivering meaningful results.

“The CDC should point to one significant development project they carried out in Grand Gedeh during their time in government,” Pennue said.

He argued that residents of the county deserve leaders committed to improving roads, education, healthcare and economic opportunities, and said Liberians are increasingly demanding accountability and tangible results from public officials.

Pennue contrasted the CDC’s performance with that of the current Unity Party-led administration, which he said is prioritizing infrastructure and improving living conditions across the country, particularly through road construction.

The senator pointed to preparations for the CDC’s upcoming anniversary celebration in Zwedru, noting that party supporters and officials will travel on roads being rehabilitated under the current government.

“They’re going to drive their vehicles on the road from Nimba to Grand Gedeh. If any of their cars get stuck in the mud, I, Zoe Emmanuel Pennue, should resign as senator,” he declared.

Pennue said the condition of the road will serve as evidence that the Unity Party government is committed to delivering development to the people of Grand Gedeh.

Officials of the Unity Party Intellectuals, Johnsonville Chapter, said the recognition was intended to honor the senator’s service, leadership and commitment to the party’s ideals. They praised his advocacy on issues affecting ordinary Liberians and encouraged him to continue championing development, accountability and good governance.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a certificate of honor to Pennue, as members of the organization reaffirmed their support for his leadership and described him as a strong advocate for the progress of Grand Gedeh County and Liberia.
