LOGAN TOWN, Montserrado County – In a bid to improve access to quality healthcare, Paul Kanneh Wrotto, a longtime resident of Logan Town, on Saturday dedicated the Building Youth Around the World Medical Center—a state-of-the-art facility aimed at addressing critical health needs in the Jacket community and neighboring areas.
The dedication ceremony, held on May 3 in Bushrod Island’s Jacket community, brought together lawmakers, local officials, and residents of Montserrado County Electoral District 15.
In his address, Wrotto recalled the personal and public challenges he faced while developing the facility, including community backlash and accusations of engaging in cult activity.
“Sometimes it brought sorrow to me, and I wanted to cry—but that’s life,” he said. “People you’ve helped during their hardest times may turn against you without seeking clarity.”
Wrotto said the project was born from a conversation in November 2023 with a friend in Ghana who was initially skeptical about Liberia. That friend later partnered with him to provide critical surgeries for more than 30 children in the community. The cost of those procedures, Wrotto said, inspired the idea of a permanent health facility.
“He told me to find a piece of land to purchase—and this very location, once a swampland and dumpsite, was chosen,” Wrotto said. “Even while construction was underway, residents continued dumping trash on the site.”
Wrotto said the center was financed with support from Liberians at home and abroad, as well as loans from local commercial banks. He emphasized that the clinic is a non-religious, community-driven initiative.
“I want to make it clear that this center is not owned by any church, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, to which I belong,” he said. “We hired medical professionals based on merit, regardless of their faith background.”
Though not a health professional himself, Wrotto credited his background in human resources and the expertise of the contractors and medical team for the center’s successful setup.
Call for Support and Sustainability
Wrotto called on residents and healthcare stakeholders to assess the clinic and provide feedback to improve its services. He also appealed for partnerships with local and international organizations to supply medications and medical equipment.
“To operate effectively, this clinic needs medications daily,” he said. “We urge you to support us. This is your clinic. The professionals we’ve hired must be retained to serve you.”
He vowed to keep services affordable while maintaining high-quality care.
Representative’s Office Commits to Continued Support
David Kansuah, representing the office of District 15 Representative Abu Bana Kamara Sr., commended Wrotto’s initiative and announced plans for an additional public health facility in the community.
“I think Jacket Community is truly blessed,” Kansuah said. “Soon, we’ll be coming to Jacket for our healthcare needs.”
He pledged the lawmaker’s full support toward the sustainability of the new facility.
Community Welcomes the Initiative
Local residents praised the opening of the clinic, describing it as a lifesaving development.
“My brother, this is what we call rescue,” one resident said. “You’ve come to save lives and care for our children. You have our support.”
Services Offered
The Building Youth Around the World Medical Center operates 24/7 and provides a wide range of services, including:
- Laboratory Tests: Lipid profiles, liver and renal function tests, cardiac and diabetic screenings, antenatal care, hepatitis and arthritis screenings, and total body analysis.
- Diagnostics and Emergency Care: Electrocardiogram (ECG), high-end ultrasound, X-ray, intensive care units, trauma care, critical care, and a modern operating theater.
- General and Specialized Services: Outpatient care, kidney dialysis, surgical procedures, ambulance services, pharmacy, and separate patient wards for enhanced care delivery.

Its vision is to help transform healthcare delivery across Liberia and the continent by becoming a model for dignified and accessible medical services.
