GANTA – ArcelorMittal Liberia has formally employed 236 young Liberians who completed three years of intensive training at its Training Academy in Yekepa, Nimba County.
The newly inducted workforce includes 128 artisans and 108 process operator learners, all of whom were celebrated during a colorful graduation and employment ceremony at the company’s training facility on April 4.
The initiative is part of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s broader Phase II Expansion Project, aimed at boosting local employment, strengthening the mining sector, and contributing significantly to Liberia’s economy.
The graduates are set to assume professional roles in mining and processing at the company’s newly constructed Iron Ore Concentrator at Mount Tokadeh, Nimba County.
This latest milestone follows the recent employment of 127 Liberians across various sectors of the company, as part of AML’s investment-readiness plan. The company is nearing completion of a new Concentration Plant to scale up operations and meet growing production targets.
ArcelorMittal Liberia’s expanded workforce marks a major boost in its capacity as it prepares to triple iron ore output and inject an additional $800 million USD into its operations. The company is also seeking a 25-year extension of its Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) with the Liberian government.
The graduation ceremony was graced by top AML executives, including Kleber Silva, ArcelorMittal’s Global CEO for Mining, AML-Liberia CEO Michiel Vandermerwe, and Head of Human Resources, Rebecca Kwabo Buegar.
CEO Silva lauded the new employees for their resilience, describing their achievement as a proud moment for the company.
“I am very proud and happy to be part of this moment of achievement as you now join us at the great mine and become part of this great investment,” he said.
Echoing Silva’s sentiments, AML-Liberia CEO Vandermerwe described the event as a “massive achievement and humbling experience,” adding: “We are immensely proud of you, and this marks the beginning of a great future.”
As the company continues to deepen its commitment to Liberia, the employment of over 230 trained professionals symbolizes a transformative step in fostering youth empowerment and national development through industrial growth.
