Monrovia – Dr. Thomas Nemine Tweh, widely celebrated as the “Original Countyman” (OCM), has issued a heartfelt appeal to Liberians to embrace the National County Sports Meet as a platform for fostering unity and bridging divides for the collective advancement of the nation.
Speaking at a press conference in Monrovia on Sunday, January 26, 2025, Dr. Tweh emphasized that the annual event transcends its competitive nature, serving instead as a vital opportunity for national cohesion.
“The National County Sports Meet is more than just a competition; it is a reflection of our shared heritage and collective aspirations,” Dr. Tweh asserted. “We must use this platform to unify our country during and after the tournament by setting aside our differences and working together for the common good of Liberia.”
Known for his steadfast advocacy for social unity and national progress, Dr. Tweh underscored the critical role of solidarity in overcoming Liberia’s challenges. He urged Liberians to adopt the camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed during the County Meet as a template for fostering mutual respect and collaboration in daily life.
“By uniting during the National County Sports Meet, we can send a powerful message to the world that Liberia is strong and united,” he said. “This unity is crucial for sustaining peace, accelerating development, and attracting foreign investments that will generate opportunities for all Liberians.”

In addition, as the leader of the Original Countyman Movement (OCM), he urged the government to prioritize investment in sports development. According to him, such efforts are not only pivotal in empowering young people but also in harnessing their potential to contribute to national growth.
“The government needs to allocate more resources to sports. Investing in this sector empowers our youth and helps them realize their full potential,” Dr. Tweh said.
