MONROVIA – Sensational LPRC Oilers have sacked Head Coach Mouctarr Fofana following the club’s poor run of form in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division League this season.
Fofana, who recently guided Nimba County in the just-ended National County Sports Meet, has seen his side struggle despite a fantastic start to the season.
LPRC Oilers have lost seven games, one of the worst records in the 14-team league table, winning six, drawing three, and accumulating 21 points from 16 matches. The club currently sits eighth in the standings.
Oilers have a negative one goal difference, having conceded 22 goals while scoring 21.
The club has now gone 63 days without a win in the Liberian top flight. Their most recent defeat came on Tuesday, February 14, 2025, when they were beaten 2-1 by Invincible Eleven (IE).
Their last league victory—a 1-0 win over Discoveries SA—came on December 2, 2024.
In a statement released by the club on Monday, Oilers announced their decision to part ways with Fofana.
“LPRC Oilers Football Club wishes to inform the public that it has officially parted ways with Coach Mouctarr Fofana. After careful consideration, the club has decided to terminate his contract with immediate effect.”
The statement continued:
“We sincerely thank Coach Fofana for his contributions and dedication during his tenure and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Oilers began the season strongly, backed by an engaged management team, headed by Amos B. Tweh, who regularly attended games and provided attractive per diem bonuses for victories.
However, MD Tweh and other senior staff members have been noticeably absent from recent matches, leading some football pundits to believe that their absence may have contributed to Oilers’ poor form.
Despite his team’s struggles since December 2024, Mouctarr Fofana still chose to coach in the National County Sports Meet, even though he had previously announced his retirement from the tournament in early 2024.
