GANTA, Nimba County — Vice President Jeremiah Koung on Tuesday urged residents of Nimba County to turn out peacefully and vote in the ongoing senatorial by-election, amid reports of low voter turnout in some parts of the county.
Speaking to reporters shortly after casting his ballot at the Ganta YMCA precinct in District 1, Koung underscored the importance of peaceful and active civic participation.
“I encourage all citizens of Nimba to remain peaceful throughout the conduct of these elections and beyond. Your vote is your voice—it is important that you turn out and make your voices heard,” he said.
Koung also pledged to work with whoever is elected, stressing the importance of unity in advancing the county’s development agenda.
“The campaign is over. Now we must allow the democratic process to take its course. I am optimistic that the elections will be free, fair, and transparent,” he added.
The by-election is being closely watched across Liberia, as Nimba remains a key political stronghold with a history of influencing national political trends.
Meanwhile, election officials and local observers have echoed Koung’s call for calm, urging residents to maintain order and uphold the democratic process throughout the day.
