MONROVIA — A dramatic confrontation between Liberia’s Executive Protection Service (EPS) and Special Presidential Envoy Mohammed Bah has ignited controversy inside the administration of President Joseph Boakai, raising questions about security protocol, internal government tensions and the future role of one of the president’s most visible diplomatic figures.
The incident, reportedly happening on May 5 at the president’s residence, has led to Bah being denied access to President Boakai and all presidential facilities until a full security review is completed. According to a communication from the Executive Protection Service (EPS), which The Liberian Investigator has obtained, Bah allegedly tried to force his way into the president’s premises after being told that President Boakai was unavailable. The report also accuses him of assaulting EPS officers and making threats during the confrontation — allegations that, if proven true, would represent one of the most serious internal security breaches involving a senior presidential appointee in recent years.
But Bah has rejected the claims. Speaking to Spoon Network, one of Liberia’s biggest online media shows host, after receiving the communication, the presidential envoy denied assaulting or insulting any officer of the EPS. According to him, he has called for an “impartial and swift investigation” into the matter, insisting that the facts would ultimately vindicate him.
The incident has rapidly become a major topic of discussion in political and diplomatic circles in Monrovia, not only because of the allegations against Bah, but also because of the envoy’s prominence within the Boakai administration and his longstanding involvement in regional and international affairs.

In practice, this means even senior officials can be denied access if procedures are not followed or if the president is unavailable.
The allegations against Bah therefore carry implications beyond a personal dispute. They touch directly on the integrity of presidential security operations and the authority of the EPS to enforce rules without political interference. If the claims are proven accurate, the security analysts contacted say the case could reinforce the EPS’s authority and signal a stricter approach to executive security under the Boakai administration.
However, if the allegations are found to be exaggerated or politically motivated, the matter could trigger broader concerns about internal rivalries and power struggles within the government.

The UP stalwart who preferred anonymity in this report noted that any investigation perceived as biased could deepen divisions within political circle or damage confidence in the administration’s commitment to transparency. “The government must balance political considerations with national security concerns. Presidential security agencies are generally expected to act decisively whenever they believe protocol has been breached. The case may therefore test how the Boakai administration manages conflicts involving politically connected officials while maintaining institutional discipline.”

Reaction to the incident has been mixed across social and political discussions in Liberia. Some citizens have defended the EPS, arguing that no official, regardless of status, should be permitted to violate presidential security procedures. Others have cautioned against rushing to judgment before the completion of a formal investigation.
