NCHE Lifts AVEEM University Suspension, Cites Compliance Gains

MONROVIA, Liberia — The National Commission on Higher Education has temporarily lifted the suspension on AVEEM University College, clearing the institution to resume academic and administrative operations after what regulators say was measurable progress in meeting required standards.

In a letter dated Sept. 16 and addressed to the Board of Trustees and management of AVEEM University College, NCHE Executive Director Prof. Edward Lama Wonkeryor said the decision followed a reassessment and a review of the institution’s compliance with key recommendations issued earlier by the commission.

AVEEM University College was among 20 higher education institutions placed in Category C in June 2025, a designation that led to the suspension of their operating licenses over alleged noncompliance with regulatory standards. At the time, the affected institutions were warned to implement corrective measures to avoid further administrative action.

Following the latest evaluation, the commission acknowledged improvements made by AVEEM in addressing previously identified deficiencies.

“In view of these corrective measures and based on the findings of the reassessment report, the Commission hereby temporarily lifts the suspension previously imposed on AVEEM University College,” the letter stated. “This decision allows the institution to resume its academic and administrative operations under the provisional supervision of the NCHE.”

The commission emphasized, however, that the reprieve is conditional. AVEEM must continue to comply fully with NCHE standards and implement all outstanding recommendations within stipulated timelines.

NCHE said it will maintain periodic monitoring of the institution to ensure sustained compliance, noting that a final decision on full reinstatement will be made after the next comprehensive evaluation.

“We urge the administration of AVEEM University College to remain committed to upholding quality assurance in higher education delivery in Liberia,” the commission said.

The temporary lifting offers AVEEM a renewed opportunity to stabilize operations, while signaling NCHE’s insistence on regulatory compliance and academic standards across Liberia’s higher education sector.
