Fourteen County champions advance to regional stage as Montserrado kicks off group play

MONROVIA — Fourteen high school teams from five regions have booked spots in the Regional Championship phase of the 2025 National High School Football and Kickball Championship, setting the stage for group play that begins Wednesday in Montserrado County.

The group-stage matches will be held at four venues — SKD Practice Field, TUSA Field, Slipway Field and Alpha Field — with winners advancing toward the national finals.

In Lofa County, Free Pentecostal Global Mission School (football) and Voinjama Multilateral High School (kickball) secured their places by defeating Voinjama Free Pentecostal Mission and Bolahun Public High School, respectively, completing Region 1’s lineup of qualifiers.

A total of 32 schools are competing in football and kickball, aiming to win their regional titles and qualify for the national finals in Montserrado.

National Finals and Prizes

Regional champions will face off for a grand prize of $7,000, medals, a championship trophy and a fully funded international trip to either Ghana or Nigeria for the football winners. Runners-up will receive $5,000, while the Most Valuable Player in each sport will earn $1,000 and additional sponsor prizes.

About the Tournament

Launched in 2017 by National High School Sports, the National High School Football and Kickball Championship is Liberia’s largest inter-school sporting event, featuring more than 150 participating schools. Organizers say the program uses sports to boost school enrollment and foster national unity.

Zone IV – Alpha Field
12 p.m.: Oluremi Tinubu Public School vs. Nathan F. Reeves Charity Memorial (Kickball)
2 p.m.: Oluremi Tinubu Public School vs. Nathan F. Reeves Charity Memorial (Football)

Quarterfinals are set for Aug. 14, semifinals on Aug. 15, and the grand finals will be played at SKD Practice Field.
