ZWEDRU – Paris FC and SUSA FC have advanced to the semifinals of the National 3rd Division Playoff taking place in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
Paris FC, based in Zwedru, earned their spot after a 1-1 draw against Todd FC of Montserrado County on Tuesday.
The result gave Paris a 2-1 aggregate win, having secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg at the Albert T. White Stadium.
As hosts, their qualification is seen as a major boost for the Grand Gedeh County Sub-Association, which is seeking to promote a second division team this season.
In Tuesday’s late game, Wein Town FC of Margibi County edged past Phebe Athletic of Bong County in a dramatic 12-11 penalty shootout, following a 2-2 aggregate tie.
On Monday, Golden Dream FC, another Montserrado representative, booked their semifinal ticket with a 2-1 win over Kwa FC of River Gee County, advancing 5-3 on aggregate after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
Also moving on is SUSA FC of Margibi, who defeated Bain United of Nimba County in a marathon penalty shootout. The two sides finished level at 3-3 on aggregate before SUSA prevailed 12-11 from the spot.
Meanwhile, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has clarified that only three teams from the Zwedru playoff will gain promotion to the second division—not four, as previously reported.
