Monrovia – Montserrado County District 8 Lawmaker, Prince Toles, has donated an ambulance to the Soniiwien Health Center, fulfilling a key campaign promise to improve healthcare services in the district. The donation comes amid calls for better access to emergency transportation, with Toles vowing to do more for his constituents.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Rep. Toles expressed gratitude to the community for their support, reflecting on previous challenges in delivering an ambulance to the district.
“In 2017, a week before the election, I brought one ambulance to this hospital. At the time, they said they didn’t have the capacity to manage it, so we handed it over to the District Development Council. But today, God has made it possible for us to bring another one,” he stated.
Toles emphasized that healthcare should transcend politics, stating that the ambulance would serve all citizens, regardless of political or religious affiliation. “Health is everybody’s business. So, we can’t put politics in it. Whether you are opposition or in position, this is for everybody,” he added.
The lawmaker also promised further development initiatives in the district, noting that the ambulance is just the beginning of his efforts to uplift District 8. “This is the first one. We’ll have more coming. By the grace of God, you’ll be introduced to the District Advisory Council, which will oversee development in our district,” Toles revealed.
The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Soniiwien Health Center, Irena Sherman, praised the donation, describing it as a significant milestone for the clinic, which serves 23 communities.
“We have experienced over time the challenge of transporting patients from here to JFK due to delays in the referral process. This has cost us lives, including that of a mother who died during childbirth. Today, you have brought joy, not just to this community but to Liberia at large,” Sherman said.
She also acknowledged the positive impact the ambulance will have on the district, expressing hope that Rep. Toles would continue to support the health center and the broader community. “What you have started, no matter what comes your way, you will overcome the storm,” she concluded.
A resident of the Soniiwien community, Adolphus Nyenpan, thanked Rep. Toles for delivering on his campaign promises. “This is why we, the people of District 8, voted for him, and we are hoping he’ll do more—not just in the health sector but in every sector—to better our district.”
