KAKATA, Margibi County — Police in Kakata have detained a businessman accused of biting off part of a man’s ear during a violent fistfight at a cane juice and liquor shop in Green Island Community in Kakata over the weekend.
The suspect, Saidu Tony, was escorted to the Crime Services Department (CSD) office in Kakata at about 4:00 p.m. Friday by a police patrol team following allegations of aggravated assault, police said.
Upon arrival at the police station, officers observed that Tony was bleeding from his mouth.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that Tony had been involved in a physical altercation with Chris Saye, 29, a resident of Telecom Community in Kakata. The incident reportedly occurred at a liquor shop in Green Island Community owned by a woman identified as Ma Weane, according to a police report.
During the fight, Tony allegedly bit Saye on the ear and severely removed a portion of it, investigators said.
As a result of the injury, Saye was immediately rushed to a hospital in the Francis Lewis Farm Community, where he remains admitted and is receiving medical treatment, police disclosed.
The police report noted that Tony was also taken for medical treatment due to his physical condition following the incident.
Police said they are still probing the details surrounding what might have caused the confrontation.
“The investigation into the matter is ongoing,” a police source said, adding that additional statements are being taken from witnesses and parties connected to the incident.
No formal charges had been announced as of Friday evening, and police said Tony remains under investigation.
The police report further stressed that all allegations remain under active investigation and that the suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to give further details to help the ongoing investigation.
