KAKATA, Margibi County — The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has announced that Margibi County is among several counties set to benefit from a new fire truck as part of a nationwide effort to boost firefighting capacity.
The announcement was made Tuesday by Emmanuel Faar, LNFS Deputy Director for Administration, during an interview on Classic FM as part of a two-day assessment tour of Margibi. Faar said the agency had been operating with only one functional fire truck nationwide, posing serious challenges in emergency response.
Faar disclosed that through engagement with lawmakers, LNFS secured budget approval last year to purchase eight fire trucks. Two have already been deployed to Grand Bassa and Nimba counties, while the remaining six are currently in Monrovia. An additional six trucks are expected in the country by July, with Margibi prioritized among the beneficiaries.
“Our tour here is intended to assess our facility and manpower. Based on our findings, Margibi will receive a new fire truck before July,” Faar said. He emphasized that the deployment includes not only equipment but also training and preventive protocols to enhance emergency response.
The fire service official credited the successful procurement to strong collaboration with the Legislature and strategic planning during the national budget process. The goal, he added, is to ensure that every county in Liberia is equipped with at least one fire truck.
Residents and local authorities in Margibi have welcomed the announcement, expressing hope that the new truck will improve response times and reduce fire-related disasters. Kakata has suffered several major fire incidents in recent years, including the 2021 blaze that destroyed C.H. Rennie Hospital and a more recent fire that gutted the Dolo Town Health Center — both without response from the fire service.
