MONROVIA — A Guinean national living in Brewerville has been charged with manslaughter after police say she struck her fiancé repeatedly on the neck and head with a stone during a domestic altercation, killing him.
Annie Kollie, 30, was arrested April 13 following the death of Mitchel Nowah, who was pronounced dead on arrival at Redemption Hospital in Brewerville after the incident at their home in the New Israel Community. She has been charged under Chapter 14, Subchapter A, Section 14.2 of the Revised Penal Code of Liberia.
According to a police investigation report, the fatal encounter occurred on the night of April 12. Nowah had returned home and sought entry into a bedroom where Kollie had been sleeping separately for more than a month. When she refused, police say Nowah forcibly pulled her by the hair, triggering a physical struggle. A third party identified only as Nyumah briefly separated the two, but the altercation resumed. During the second confrontation, police allege Kollie picked up a stone and struck Nowah multiple times on the right side of his neck and the back of his head. He lost consciousness and was rushed to Redemption Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The investigation revealed the couple had four children together and had been living under the same roof at the time of the incident. Investigators also noted claims that Nowah had a history of habitual drinking and domestic violence, which Kollie’s account suggests led her to move into a separate room prior to the night in question. Witness statements gathered during the investigation corroborated the sequence of events leading to the fatal blows.
Police concluded that Kollie’s actions directly caused Nowah’s death and charged her accordingly. Manslaughter under Liberian law involves the unlawful killing of another person without premeditation.
The case is pending prosecution and is expected to proceed through the court system in the coming weeks.
