BONG MINES, Bong County — Police in Bong County have launched a manhunt for Jerry Lawrence King, who is wanted in connection with the alleged murder of his former fiancée, 44-year-old Doris Kollie, in Bong Mines.
Authorities say Kollie was allegedly killed by King on May 16 after a confrontation between the two early Friday morning.
According to the victim’s brother, Sam Livingstone, Kollie was returning home from a wake around 1 a.m. when she encountered King, who reportedly confronted her about rekindling a relationship that ended nearly nine years ago.
“The relationship ended years ago and both of them moved on,” Livingstone told reporters. “But Jerry later wanted her back. She had already moved on with someone else named Alex and made that clear to him. On the night in question, he started arguing with her on her way home. She was tired and just wanted to rest. Unfortunately, they got into a confrontation, and he overpowered her. That’s when he allegedly killed her.”
Community reports suggest that King confessed to multiple individuals in Bong Mines before fleeing the area.
While police have not yet released an autopsy report, a 15-member coroner’s jury found clear signs of foul play during an initial examination of Kollie’s body.
Bong County Police Commander Fasu Sheriff, speaking to journalists Monday, confirmed the coroner’s findings and identified King as the prime suspect. He also confirmed that the suspect allegedly admitted to the crime before disappearing.
“There is no indication at this time that anyone else was involved,” Sheriff said. “The Liberia National Police remains fully committed to finding Jerry Lawrence King and ensuring justice is served.”
He urged the public to remain calm and assist with any information that could lead to King’s arrest.
Meanwhile, grieving family members are calling on the Liberia National Police to intensify their search and swiftly bring the suspect to justice.
Kollie’s death has sparked widespread concern in the Bong Mines community, where residents say they are shaken by the violence and want to see stronger protections for women.
