Malian, 42, Kills Liberian Woman in Guinea

GANTA, Nimba County – State securities in Guinea have arrested a 42-year-old Malian citizen who allegedly killed his 32-year-old Liberian girlfriend in Guinea.

The suspect, Sheik Jallo, and his girlfriend, the mother of two children, had been living in Ganta, Liberia, for over two years prior to the incident on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

According to reports, the deceased had recently completed her public exams and was a graduating student of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) High School in Ganta.

Family sources indicate that Sheik Jallo left Ganta for Guinea after the public exams, where he invited the deceased to visit him. It was during this visit that he allegedly killed her.

The motive behind the killing of 32-year-old Rose Kou Garteh remains unknown. However, sources suggest that Jallo accused Garteh of having an extramarital affair, which may have led to her untimely death.

Guinean state securities informed our Nimba County correspondent that following the death of Rose, Sheik Jallo attempted to flee to his home country, Mali, but was apprehended in the process.

Rose was reportedly killed in a room in Guinea, where Jallo locked the door on her body before trying to escape. It is yet to be disclosed whether Jallo will face justice in Liberia or Guinea, but the deceased’s body has been handed over to her family members in Ganta.

The deceased was a resident of the Congo Community in Ganta, while Jallo sold beef (cow meat) in Ganta.

Following the news of Rose’s death, angry residents of the Congo Community in Ganta planned to move to Guinea to carry out mob violence. However, their actions were controlled by Guinean state securities and local authorities.

The deceased’s body has been handed over to her family for burial in Guinea, while Sheik Jallo remains in the custody of Guinean state securities for further investigation.

Reports indicate that since the incident, those selling cow meat alongside Sheik Jallo in Ganta have closed their shops and have yet to reopen to the public.
