LPRC Oilers basketball players celebrate another victory in the 2025 LBA First Division season

Published: June 23, 2025

MONROVIA — The LPRC Oilers have made their strongest start in over a decade, opening the 2025 Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) First Division season with a flawless 7-0 record. The team’s dominant run has positioned them as early favorites to challenge two-time defending champions Mighty Barrolle.

Their seventh consecutive victory came in emphatic fashion on Saturday, June 21, as they cruised to a 96–29 blowout win over Commissioners at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Gymnasium.

The win solidified the Oilers’ place atop the standings and marked the first time in 10 years they’ve begun a season with seven straight victories — a milestone that has electrified fans and raised hopes for a potential championship run.

Under the leadership of head coach Varfley Corneh, the Oilers have emerged as the league’s most dynamic and entertaining squad. Known for their disciplined defense, fast-paced transition game, and sharp ball movement, the team has consistently thrilled packed crowds.

“This is the best I’ve seen the Oilers play in years. The way they move the ball, the confidence — everything just clicks,” said longtime supporter Emmanuel Johnson after Saturday’s win. “We’ve been waiting for this.”

Another fan, Francis Tdoo, added: “They’re not just winning — they’re making us proud. It’s beautiful basketball. We’re behind them all the way to the championship.”

The Oilers have already notched two impressive wins over Barrolle this season, sending a clear message to their rivals and the rest of the league. As Barrolle chases a third straight title, they now face growing pressure from an Oilers team that appears faster, sharper, and more determined with each game.

Crowds at the SKD Gymnasium have swelled in recent weeks, fueled by the Oilers’ high-octane play and renewed public enthusiasm.

As the regular season progresses, fans and analysts alike will be watching to see if the Oilers can maintain their momentum through the playoffs — and possibly end Barrolle’s reign at the top of Liberian basketball.
