LPRC Oilers unveil three foreign players as LBA title race intensifies

MONROVIA — Defending champions LPRC Oilers have unveiled three foreign players as the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) First Division League intensifies.

The new additions, Ejeh Eric Ameh, Ezeani Johnbosco Okwuchukwu, and Kwaor Timothy Tern are all Nigerian nationals. The terms of their contracts were not disclosed.

Before joining the Oilers, Ameh played for Kano Pillars, Okwuchukwu featured for Namwuogo Blazers, and Tern suited up for Gboko Chiefs, all based in Nigeria.

Oilers management expressed excitement about the signings, saying the trio is expected to add quality, strength and depth as the team looks to defend its title.

One of Liberia’s most recognized basketball clubs, the Oilers view the move as a statement of intent to remain competitive while strengthening their roster with international experience. The team has played four games this season, winning three and losing one.

The Oilers, however, struggled at the 2025–26 FIBA Africa Champions Clubs “Road to BAL” qualifiers in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and will be looking to avoid a repeat of that performance if they secure another league title. The reigning Liberian champions failed to win a game in Group B, where they faced Spintex Knights of Ghana, Jeunesse Club d’Abidjan of Ivory Coast and Elan Coton of Benin.

Speaking at a recent club appreciation night, team captain Fedolph Marshall said the Oilers are targeting a domestic double this season.

Marshall, who was among five players who transferred from the Bushrod Bulls at the start of last season, played a key role in the team’s championship run, helping the Oilers edge corporate rivals NPA Pythons in a best-of-five finals series.
