MONROVIA — Lofa County head coach Korvy “Mission” Kollie has been arrested for allegedly trafficking narcotics, after Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency officers in Grand Bassa County reportedly caught him transporting dozens of Tramadol pills along the Margibi–Bassa corridor.
Kollie was taken into custody on Nov. 28 at the Orange Grove Gate checkpoint, where LDEA officers were conducting a routine search of vehicles traveling toward Greenville, Sinoe County.
George Johnson, senior investigator with the LDEA’s Grand Bassa detachment, confirmed to The Liberian Investigator on Monday that Kollie has remained in custody since his arrest.
According to Johnson, officers found 82 pieces of Tramadol in Kollie’s possession, with an estimated street value of L$164,000.
He said Kollie was remanded to the Buchanan Central Prison last Monday after the Buchanan Magisterial Court ordered his pretrial detention. The court, Johnson added, has already ruled that Kollie is guilty of transporting the illegal substances.
“We turned him over to the court, and he was found guilty of transporting 82 pieces of Tramadol,” Johnson said, noting that Kollie will remain behind bars until authorities transfer him to the Monrovia Central Prison for sentencing.
At the Buchanan facility, corrections officers confirmed his detention but barred reporters from speaking with Kollie.
Suspension Came a Day Before Arrest
One day before the arrest, on Nov. 27, Kollie was suspended by Sinoe NPA FC, where he also served as head coach. The club cited “continued poor performance” and repeated failure to follow technical instructions.
“This action follows a continued pattern of poor performance and repeated failure to comply with technical instructions issued by the Technical Team,” the club said in a statement.
A Coach With a Decorated Past
Kollie, known nationwide as “Mission,” is regarded as one of Liberia’s most experienced coaches. He led Nimba United to its historic 2015 First Division title and guided Montserrado County to the 2021 County Meet final. In the 2024–25 tournament, he returned to lift Lofa County to the championship.
He had been preparing to coach Lofa again in the upcoming County Meet when the arrest was made.
Silence From County, LFA Awaits Details
The Lofa County Sports Steering Committee has yet to issue a statement about the impact of the arrest on its technical staff. Insiders told The Liberian Investigator that county authorities have been aware of the situation for more than a week but have remained publicly silent.
Liberia Football Association spokesperson Anthony Kokoi said the LFA will comment once it receives full information from relevant authorities.
