MONROVIA — Abraham “Avi” Zaidenberg, managing director of the Liberia International Shipping & Corporate Registry (LISCR), has reaffirmed his commitment to Liberian football, vowing continued support for the sport he has championed for more than two decades.
Zaidenberg made the pledge during a recognition ceremony hosted by the Liberia Football Association (LFA), where he praised President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for what he described as “visible and historic support” for women’s football.
The LFA delegation, led by third vice president Jodie-Marian Reid Seton, honored Zaidenberg and LISCR Trust Company for their longstanding contributions to the sport. LISCR is the official sponsor of the Women’s Football League and has consistently supported grassroots and national tournaments.
The ceremony followed a landmark moment for women’s football: the senior women’s national team received full government funding for the first time since 2018 — a move facilitated by the Boakai administration.
Last year, LISCR Trust Company signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with the LFA valued at $30,000. The sponsorship supports cash prizes for the Women’s Lower Leagues in Montserrado, Maryland, Nimba, River Gee, Lofa and Grand Gedeh counties.
“It is with immense gratitude and pride that I accept this honor on behalf of LISCR Trust Company,” Zaidenberg said. “Supporting the LFA, and in particular the Women’s Football League, has been more than a sponsorship. It’s a commitment to growth, talent, empowerment and opportunity for Liberian women.”
Zaidenberg said LISCR sees football as more than just a sport — calling it a tool for social unity, youth empowerment and national development.
“We strongly believe football has the unique ability to inspire and unite,” he said. “Women’s football is a testament to that power. At LISCR, we see it as both a responsibility and a privilege to champion.”
Under Zaidenberg’s leadership since 1999, LISCR Trust Company has become a pivotal supporter of the game in Liberia. LISCR FC, the company’s flagship club, is one of the most successful teams in the country, with multiple First Division titles and FA Cup wins. The company has also supported events such as the National County Sports Meet and the Intra-Governmental Tournament — both seen as key to promoting community cohesion and national pride.
Reflecting on his 26-year journey in Liberian football, Zaidenberg said his commitment has remained constant through the highs and lows of the sport.
“We have been through a lot,” he said. “Whether supporting the national team during difficult years or staying engaged with the LFA and the national league, including the women’s league — our commitment never wavered. And that commitment will remain as long as I live.”
He concluded his remarks with a personal tribute to President Boakai for his support of the women’s national team.
“I’d like to thank our president, Honorable Joseph Boakai,” he said. “I speak with him occasionally, and I know how deeply he is connected to sports, the national team and football in particular — especially women’s football. Thank you, Mr. President, for all you do.”
Zaidenberg also urged players, coaches and stakeholders to continue striving for excellence in all aspects of the game.
“Let’s continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible — on and off the field,” he said. “For the advancement of Liberia, I encourage you to work even harder to elevate our flag and make it shine brightly among the nations.”
