BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County — The Liberian Senate has donated US$15,000 to the Nyonblee Cares Foundation, reaffirming its support for the organization’s humanitarian work during a fundraising program that also celebrated the foundation’s 15th anniversary in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
The event, held Friday, July 3, drew senior government officials, lawmakers, representatives of the Office of the First Lady, civil society organizations, local leaders, and community members in support of the foundation established by Senate President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
Adding to the momentum, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. contributed US$10,000, while Senate President Pro Tempore Emeritus Albert T. Chie, serving as Guest of Honor, announced the Senate’s institutional donation of US$15,000 and personally pledged an additional US$5,000.
Presenting the Senate’s contribution, Senator Chie described the donation as more than financial assistance, saying it reflected the Legislature’s confidence in the foundation’s mission to improve the lives of vulnerable Liberians.
“This contribution from the Liberian Senate is not just a financial donation. It is a statement of solidarity with the work of the Nyonblee Cares Foundation and its dedication to uplifting the lives of our people,” Senator Chie said.
He also praised the people of Grand Bassa County for electing what he described as “a very strong, hardworking and respectful Senator” in Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
Speaking at the fundraiser, Senator Karnga-Lawrence noted that the event coincided with both her birthday on July 2 and the foundation’s 15th anniversary on July 3, emphasizing that the organization was established long before her election to the Liberian Senate.
“Every year I try to make my birthday meaningful by doing something that will impact the lives of others. This year we decided to have this fundraiser for the NYONBLEE Cares Foundation,” she said.
She highlighted the foundation’s major achievements over the past decade and a half, including a Mobile Clinic, launched in 2011, that has provided medical treatment to more than 30,000 people in hard-to-reach communities.
The foundation also established a Speed School Program in 2017 to help out-of-school children return to learning and introduced a STEM Education and Robotics Program in 2016, which has trained students in robotics and enabled eight Liberian students to represent Africa in international robotics competitions.
In addition, its Surgical Outreach Program, launched three years ago, has provided free surgeries to more than 500 patients, with the next outreach scheduled for River Cess County next week.
Senator Karnga-Lawrence said the foundation has expanded its services beyond Grand Bassa to River Cess, Margibi, and Montserrado counties, touching thousands of lives through healthcare, education, and youth empowerment initiatives.
She assured donors that every contribution received would be managed responsibly and transparently to sustain and expand the foundation’s work.
Organizers expressed appreciation to the Liberian Senate, President Boakai, and other individuals and institutions that contributed to the fundraiser, while appealing for continued support from government officials, development partners, and the private sector to help strengthen the foundation’s ongoing humanitarian programs across the country.
