BANJUL, The Gambia — Liberia’s ambassador to Senegal, with concurrent accreditation to The Gambia, Ali Sylla, on Friday presented his letter of credence to Gambian President Adama Barrow, pledging to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation between the two West African nations.
Sylla, appointed by Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, conveyed greetings from Monrovia and underscored the historic relationship between Liberia and The Gambia, dating back to the 1940s when Liberia hosted thousands of Gambians. He also recalled The Gambia’s contribution to Liberia’s peace process, including the deployment of troops under the ECOWAS peacekeeping mission during the civil wars.
The envoy thanked The Gambia for supporting Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. He also briefed Barrow on Boakai’s flagship “ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development,” which aims to tackle unemployment, improve infrastructure, expand access to education and healthcare, and promote transparency and accountability.
“The ARREST Agenda aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Africa’s Agenda 2063, and ECOWAS Vision 2050, positioning Liberia as an engaged partner in regional and global development,” Sylla said.
Barrow welcomed Sylla to The Gambia and expressed appreciation for Boakai’s invitation to Liberia’s 178th Independence Anniversary, which he was unable to attend. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to closer ties and encouraged greater collaboration among the Liberian government, Gambian authorities and the private sector.
The ceremony was attended by Gambian Foreign Minister Sering Madou Njie, presidential advisers on foreign affairs, and Liberia’s honorary consul in The Gambia, Farimang Manneh.
