Peking University has admitted former Liberian Assistant Minister for International Organizations Karishma Pelham-Raad to its prestigious PKU Dongfang Scholarship Program, making her one of 50 global scholars selected for the intensive study program beginning in October.
“We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted as a General Visiting Student at the Office of International Relations of Peking University, from October 20, 2025 to November 16, 2025,” the university stated in its admission notification dated September 4, 2025.
The program, fully funded by the PKU Dongfang Scholarship, will focus on international relations, leadership, governance, and China’s development model. Participants are required to register by October 20, bringing original copies of physical examination records and blood test reports for visa applications at Chinese embassies or consulates.
“Your fees for studying in Peking University will be covered by PKU Dongfang Scholarship,” the admission letter confirmed.
The university warned that failure to register within the specified date without permission would result in candidates being “regarded as declining this offer of admission.”
Pelham-Raad described her acceptance as “a reaffirmation of my commitment to lifelong learning and global engagement,” encouraging young leaders across Liberia and Africa to invest in knowledge and purpose-driven growth.
“Education remains one of the most powerful tools to transform societies and inspire change,” she said.
The Peking University program represents the latest academic achievement for Pelham-Raad, who recently completed an executive education program at Harvard Business School.
Her selection comes shortly after receiving the African Young Icon in Public Service of the Year Award at the Democracy Heroes Award Africa 2025, held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Democracy Heroes Award Africa recognizes exemplary leaders and public servants who demonstrate integrity and commitment to advancing democracy and governance across the continent.
Pelham-Raad was commended for her leadership as National Campaign Chairperson for Liberia’s successful election to the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” Pelham-Raad said at the Abuja ceremony. “I dedicate this award to the people of Liberia, whose resilience and spirit of service continue to inspire my commitment to leadership and nation-building.”
The twin recognitions highlight growing international acknowledgment of Liberian diplomats’ contributions to global governance and regional affairs. Pelham-Raad continues to represent Liberia on various international platforms, advocating for youth empowerment and diplomatic engagement.
