Monrovia — The Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Liberia National Commission on Arms (LiNCA) have announced the immediate revocation of all previously issued firearms permits.
According to a statement, effective immediately, all firearm permits issued under the provisions of the Firearm and Ammunition Control Act of 2015 are now considered void. This includes all licenses and permits granted to private individuals and businesses. The only exception to this sweeping policy change is for firearms permits granted to diplomatic missions, which will remain valid.
The LNP and LiNCA have mandated the surrender of all firearms legally possessed under these now-revoked licenses. Firearms must be turned in at the Small Arms Unit of the LNP’s central headquarters in Monrovia. Failure to comply with this directive will result in severe penalties.
Individuals found in possession of firearms without valid permits will be considered in violation of the Firearm and Ammunition Control Act of 2015. The penalties for such violations include substantial fines and the possibility of imprisonment, reflecting the government’s firm stance on unauthorized firearm possession.
The LNP and LiNCA have emphasized that the revocation of firearms permits is a critical step in enhancing public safety across the nation. By tightening control over firearm ownership, the government aims to create a more secure and peaceful environment for all citizens. This move is part of broader efforts to reduce violence and prevent the misuse of firearms in Liberia.
The public has been advised that additional guidance on the legal process for possessing firearms in the future will be provided. Citizens are urged to comply with the current directive to avoid facing legal repercussions. The LNP and LiNCA will be available to answer any inquiries related to the new policy and its implementation.
