MONROVIA — The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has signed a landmark agreement with Starlink Liberia LLC to provide high-speed satellite Internet to 156 public senior high schools across the country, a major step toward bridging Liberia’s digital divide and modernizing its education sector.
The deal, finalized this week, is part of Starlink’s Impact Plan, which donates Internet kits, routers, and a one-year data subscription to underserved communities. The donation, valued at over US$160,000, will directly support the LTA’s School Connect Project under the government’s National Digital Transformation Program.
LTA Chairman Clarence Massaquoi, speaking during the signing ceremony, described the initiative as a “great leap forward” for Liberia’s education and digital development agenda.
“Providing high-speed, reliable Internet connectivity to public senior high schools in every county represents a major step in bridging the digital divide and improving learning outcomes,” Massaquoi said.
He emphasized that the partnership aligns with President Joseph N. Boakai’s commitment to using information and communication technology (ICT) to empower Liberian youth and advance national development.
Under the agreement, the LTA will work with the Ministry of Education to install Starlink kits at the selected schools, all of which have already been equipped with solar power and computers through the Ministry’s Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) project.
The Starlink kits are expected to arrive in Liberia in the coming weeks for immediate deployment. Once installed, the initiative will mark the first large-scale public school Internet rollout powered by satellite connectivity, ensuring access to digital learning tools even in the most remote parts of the country.
