MONROVIA — The Ministry of Youth and Sports has commended FIFA and the Liberia Football Association for what it described as a transformative push to develop the country’s next generation of football talent, saying Liberia is among the first nations in the world to benefit from FIFA’s global Talent Development Scheme.
The ministry praised the LFA for completing its first nationwide scouting exercise, identifying promising young players across all counties. Selected players between the ages of 12 and 17 are currently undergoing intensive training before transitioning to the George Weah Technical Center and the Henry Nyema Brown Academy in Careysburg for further development.
The ministry also recognized LFA President Mustapha I. Raji for securing the assignment of FIFA-accredited talent coach Ammy Ninje to work with Liberia’s young male and female players under the scheme.
The LFA recently facilitated a Talent Development Scheme delegation trip to the United Kingdom for specialized training and exposure. The delegation included players from Liberia’s under-17 and under-20 national teams, part of a broader effort to give the country’s most promising young footballers firsthand experience of professional standards abroad.
The ministry described the initiative as a major step toward building sustainable pathways for young Liberians to reach their potential through sport, saying the collaboration between FIFA, the LFA, and national stakeholders reflects a shared vision of using football as a tool for empowerment, social inclusion, and national development.
It reaffirmed its commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that contribute to the transformation of Liberia’s sporting sector and said it looked forward to continued cooperation that would give young Liberians the training, exposure, and support needed to compete at the highest levels of the game.
