MONROVIA – The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has successfully concluded a series of public hearings on LIBENERGY’s application for the review of electricity tariffs within its operational areas in lower Nimba County and Southeastern Liberia.
The public hearing process commenced on April 21, 2026, and concluded on April 28, 2026, with a total of six hearings conducted across LIBENERGY’s licensed areas. These included Tappita City in Nimba County; Toe and Zwedru cities in Grand Gedeh County; Fish Town, River Gee County; and Pleebo and Harper cities in Maryland County. The hearings provided a platform for stakeholders to share their views, raise concerns, and offered recommendations regarding the proposed tariff and LIBENERY service delivery.
During the hearings, stakeholders emphasized the need for a reduction in the proposed tariff and expansion of services, alongside tangible improvements in delivery service. Participants included the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), superintendents, commissioners, local government authorities, LIBENERGY customers, civil society organizations, among others, all of whom contributed constructively on the proposed tariff and electricity services.
LIBENERGY initially submitted its tariff proposals to the Commission in January 2026 for review and approval. The public hearings were convened pursuant to Section 13.7 of the 2015 Electricity Law of Liberia, the Electricity Tariff Regulations, and LERC’s Administrative Procedure Regulations of September 2020. The objective was to allow LIBENERGY to present its proposed tariffs, explain the underlying cost assumptions, and receive feedback from stakeholders and customers.
“The Commission remains committed to a transparent and inclusive regulatory process that reflects the voices of the people we serve,” said the Chairman of LERC Hon. Claude J. Katta. “The insights gathered during these hearings will play a critical role in ensuring that any approved tariff strikes a fair balance between affordability for consumers and the sustainability of electricity service provision.”
The Commission will issue its final decision on June 12, 2026. The approved tariff will take effect on July 1, 2026, and will remain in force for a period of three years, in accordance with the Electricity Tariff Regulations, unless otherwise reviewed by the Commission.
Meanwhile, LERC extends its appreciation to superintendents, local government officials, customers and all stakeholders who participated in the hearings and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring reliable, affordable, and accessible electricity services across Liberia.
