LFA, FIFA conclude elite youth goalkeeper coaches workshop in Monrovia

MONROVIA — The five-day LFA/FIFA Elite Youth Goalkeeper Coaches Workshop wrapped up Friday, Dec. 5, at the Liberia Football Association (LFA) headquarters, marking another step in strengthening the country’s goalkeeper development system.

Twenty-three goalkeeper coaches completed the intensive course, which ran from Dec. 1–5 and included both theoretical and practical training sessions. The curriculum covered modern goalkeeper methodology, advanced coaching roles and responsibilities, and other key technical components essential for producing competitive keepers.

During the closing ceremony, lead FIFA instructor Alejandro Heredia told participants that their success would be measured not by the workshop but by the work they put in afterward.

“This is not the end; this is just the beginning,” Heredia said. “You now have the responsibility to take this knowledge and train Liberian goalkeepers and change the narrative of football in this country.”

He urged the coaches to apply the principles and techniques learned during the week to elevate Liberia’s goalkeeping standards and prepare young talents for international competition.

LFA President Mustapha Raji praised the coaches for their dedication, describing their participation as a commitment to the long-term growth of Liberian football.

“Developing football at all levels remains the cornerstone of our mandate,” Raji said.

He assured participants that the LFA will continue supporting them as they begin implementing specialized training programs at their clubs and within national team structures. Raji also thanked FIFA and the instructors for their contribution to capacity building in Liberia.

Speaking on behalf of the coaches, Nathaniel Sherman expressed appreciation to the LFA for organizing the training and for sustaining its investment in technical development. He also thanked instructors Heredia and Cameroon Cox for delivering modern coaching techniques and methodologies that align with global trends.

Participants said the workshop has empowered them with tools and knowledge to better execute their duties at their respective clubs and with national youth teams.
