KONGBA DISTRICT, Gbarpolu County — Residents of Kongba District are accusing members of the Gbarpolu County legislative caucus of neglecting critical infrastructure, pointing to deteriorating roads and schools where children sit on bare floors for lack of desks and chairs.
Jallah Samma, a community leader in the district, said roads leading to Lofa Bridge and surrounding towns have become nearly impassable, restricting movement for motorbikes and vehicles and raising transportation costs for traders, many of them women, who depend on the routes to move goods to market.
“These roads are not just bad, they are crippling our livelihoods,” Samma said.
He said the deteriorating road network is isolating communities and limiting access to health care and markets, turning routine travel into a daily ordeal.
In schools across the district, Samma said students are forced to sit on bare floors during lessons, with some children borrowing chairs from nearby homes to attend class.
“This is not the kind of environment our children deserve,” he said, adding that the conditions discourage attendance and undermine learning.
He attributed both failures to what he called a lack of political will among the county’s elected representatives.
“Our leaders must do more,” Samma said. “The people are suffering, and the silence is becoming too loud.”
Members of the Gbarpolu County legislative caucus could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
