MONROVIA – The Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary (LBTS) reached a monumental milestone on Sunday, December 8, 2024, as His Excellency Deacon Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Chairman of the Board of Trustees, celebrated the institution’s first-ever graduates of the Master of Arts Degree Program during its 42nd commencement convocation.
“This year’s graduation is not just a celebration of your achievements but a historic moment for our seminary,” declared Kemayah, who also serves as the Political Leader and Standard Bearer of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE). “We are witnessing the first harvest of the Master of Arts Degree Program, a dream that began under our watch in September 2022. This milestone is a testament to the vision and dedication of our seminary to provide advanced theological education.”
Addressing the Class of 2024, Kemayah spoke on the transformative power of education in shaping society and fostering faith-driven leadership. He encouraged graduates to embrace their roles as agents of change, confronting societal challenges such as inequality and injustice with knowledge, empathy, and unwavering faith.
“Education is a powerful tool for transformation. It shapes our understanding of the world and equips us to address the complex challenges we face in our society today. Each of you has engaged in rigorous academic study, deepened your faith, and honed your ability to think critically and compassionately. These skills are essential as you step into roles that will influence lives and inspire change in your respective communities and the society in general,” he said.
The convocation also celebrated the unwavering support of the LBTS administration, led by President Rev. Dr. Momolu Amstrong Massaquoi, and the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention (LBM&EC), spearheaded by its President, Rev. Dr. Samuel B. Reeves, Jr. Kemayah expressed profound gratitude to the Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff for their shared vision and commitment to academic excellence.
In a significant announcement, Kemayah revealed the re-appointment of Rev. Dr. Massaquoi as President of the LBTS for another five-year term. The unanimous decision by the Board of Trustees was described as a continuation of Massaquoi’s transformative leadership.
Amb. Kemayah: “In light of this celebration, I am also pleased to share an important announcement regarding the leadership of our premier Seminary, the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary. On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary (LBTS), and by extension, the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention (LBM&EC), I am delighted to announce that pursuant to our unanimous decision taken as a Board of Trustees of the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 in our last Board meeting for this year; Rev. Dr. Momolu Amstrong Massaquoi has been formally re-appointed as President of this premier institution of higher learning for a five-year term.”
The commencement ceremony featured an inspirational address by Rev. Dr. Patrick Fallah Taylor, Sr., alongside heartfelt tributes to the LBTS Alumni Association, particularly the United States Chapter, for their steadfast support.
Kemayah closed with a charge to the graduates to remain lifelong learners and advocates for education. “Commit to fostering a culture of learning, growth, and development within your communities. Your journey ahead is one of purpose and impact, and through your faith and education, you hold the power to transform lives.”
