Kakata Police charge woman after investigation into alleged assault and property damage

KAKATA, Margibi County — A woman who reported an alleged sexual assault at Police Depot #4 in Wennah Town has been charged with multiple offenses after investigators said they found no supporting evidence for her claims and determined that police property had been damaged during the incident.

Police said the matter began on January 6, 2026, when Mary Flomo appeared at the Kakata City Police Headquarters and reported that she had been assaulted while at the depot late that night. She alleged that she had gone to the depot after 11 p.m. to visit Officer Abraham Lassana, whom she said had promised her a New Year gift.

According to the police account, Flomo told investigators she remained at Depot #4 with officers until about 1 a.m. and later lay on a bench to rest. She alleged that while she was lying down, Community Watch Forum officer John Lablah sexually assaulted her and claimed that several officers were present at the time.

Police investigators said all officers who were on duty that night were invited for questioning. According to police, all officers denied the allegation, and Flomo did not provide evidence to substantiate her claim. She was subsequently referred to a medical facility for examination; however, police said the examination did not establish evidence of rape.

Investigators further reported that during the incident, Flomo allegedly damaged police property, including window glass, plastic chairs, and zinc sheets at Depot #4. The damaged items were documented and added to the case file, police said.

Following the investigation, authorities said the allegations against Officer Lablah could not be substantiated. Police subsequently charged Flomo, now identified as the defendant, with criminal mischief, criminal coercion, false public alarm, and disorderly conduct. The matter has been forwarded to court for prosecution, and police emphasized that the court will determine the final outcome.

Speaking to The Liberian Investigator, Flomo, in tears, pleaded for the opportunity to replace the damaged materials at the police depot. Police, however, insisted on forwarding the matter to court. She has since been remanded at the Kakata Central Prison as the case proceeds, transitioning from complainant in an alleged rape case to criminal suspect over the alleged damage of police property.
