MONROVIA – The John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) has dismissed as false and misleading social media claims alleging that a patient’s death resulted from the placement of a dialysis catheter, clarifying that the patient died from complications related to an underlying medical condition and not from the dialysis procedure.
The hospital’s response follows viral social media posts claiming that a patient died after a dialysis catheter was inserted at the country’s largest referral hospital.
In a statement issued Thursday, JFK Medical Center said the allegations misrepresent the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death and risk undermining public confidence in the country’s healthcare system.
According to the hospital, the patient first experienced bleeding at home on Monday, June 29, 2026, but was not brought to the medical center until Wednesday, July 1, when she arrived as an emergency case.
“Upon arrival, she was promptly assessed, underwent the necessary diagnostic investigations, including a CT scan based on her clinical presentation, and was admitted for ongoing monitoring and treatment,” the statement said.
The hospital emphasized that the patient’s death was not caused by the placement of a dialysis catheter or the dialysis procedure itself, but rather by complications arising from the medical condition for which she had already been receiving treatment.
JFKMC further stated that its medical team maintained regular communication with the patient’s family throughout her hospitalization, providing updates on her condition and the care being administered.
“Throughout her hospitalization, the medical team maintained regular communication with her family regarding her condition and the care being provided,” the hospital noted.
Citing its ethical and legal obligations to protect patient privacy, the medical center said it would not release additional details about the patient’s medical history or treatment.
The hospital also expressed condolences to the bereaved family while urging the public to refrain from circulating unverified information.
“Out of respect for the patient and her family, and in accordance with our ethical and legal obligations regarding patient confidentiality, JFK Medical Center will not disclose additional details of her medical history or treatment,” the statement said.
The facility warned that spreading inaccurate information could cause further distress to grieving families and erode public trust in healthcare institutions.
JFK Medical Center extended its deepest sympathies to the family and called on the public to rely on verified information when discussing sensitive medical matters.
